Grace SODASORB® Medical Grade CO2 absorbent complies fully with the United States Pharmacopeia – National Formulary specifications for carbon dioxide absorbents. SODASORB® is intended for professional use in anesthesia ircuits/systems and respiratory therapy equipment for the purpose of removing exhaled carbon dioxide from a breathing circuit.

COMPOSITION

Grace SODASORB® Medical Grade CO2 absorbent is a pelletized compound consisting primarily of hydrated lime (Ca(OH)2) blended with a small quantity of sodium hydroxide (NaOH). SODASORB also contains a fractional content of ethyl violet dye.

COLOR CHANGE AND REVERSION

As an aid in determining the progressive exhaustion of SODASORB® Absorbent, an ethyl violet indicator dye (a sensitive acid based indicator) is added to the formulation. Medical Grade SODASORB® will change in color from white to purple as the absorption reaction proceeds through the bed of absorbent in the direction of the gas flow. As the pH of the absorbent decreases below 10.3, the dye changes color from white to purple. Full exhaustion of Sodasorb is indicated by a deep purple color.

During intermittent usage of equipment, SODASORB® Absorbent will revert from purple to white due to an increase in pH at the surface of the SODASORB® particles. This color reversion is strictly a function of pH change and is not due to regeneration of any absorptive capacity. Because of color reversion, it is important for the end user to establish degree of absorbent capacity exhausted. Color indication is an adjunct guide and should always be used in conjunction with CO2 monitors and time/volume calculations. If there is any uncertainty about the remaining SODASORB COabsorptive capacity, replace the existing material with fresh SODASORB Absorbent.

STORAGE AND HANDLING

• Keep SODASORB® containers tightly sealed

• SODASORB® should be kept in a dry environment at temperatures above 32ºF(OºC)

• Avoid direct sunlight and other types of UV intense light exposure
